Day #263: My Wife

As you might have already guessed from the title of today’s blog, it’s me the husband again. Stephanie is indisposed and today I wanted to take the opportunity to move away from the topic of personal finance and write about this wonderful woman that I am very proud to call my wife. She praises a lot of people in her blog, but she never is praised herself. Let me do the honor.

I am lucky to not only have Stephanie as my wife, but she is also my best friend and my colleague. Thus, I think that I have a pretty good idea who this person is, privately and professionally. You can start with the usual and obvious. She is very pretty and very smart. But she is so much more than that. She is a wonderful loving wife and an outstanding, loving and devoted mother to her own two and a whole bunch of “adopted” children. She is also beloved by her students. Just his year she was nominated for the 2011 Gamma Sigma Alpha Faculty of the Year Award.  She always has an open ear for everybody who comes to her with their problems. It does not matter if they are related to class matters or very personal problems. She welcomes everybody and always tries to help to the best of her abilities. While she devotes all that time to her students, she produces high quality research that has implications far beyond the realm of the academy. She does not sit in that “ivory tower” and produces research papers that are read by a few peers. She wants to make a difference and she does.  In addition, she writes this blog every (!) day and the quality is just amazing. As you might certainly have noticed by now, my posts do not even come close to what she produces on a daily basis (when she comes home after a long day at work). If Energizer ever needs a new bunny, I know where they should look.

Now that is the “public” Stephanie. But then there is the Stephanie out of the public eye, the dedicated wife and mother. Despite everything else that’s going on around her, family always comes first.

And then there is my wife, Stephanie. The love of my life, my rock. We will be married 10 years in June and not a day has gone by where I did not count my blessings. I have to admit that she found me and not the other way around. But I am so happy she did. As always I was slow to catch on, but eventually I did and the rest, as they say, is history. My whole life I have always associated music to anything significant that happened to me. And obviously, I have a song that I consider our song (and no my dear, it’s not Benny and the Jets by Elton John). It’s ”I Could Not Ask For More” by Edwin McCain. There is no better way to describe how I feel about my amazing wife and that’s why I want to close this post with the lyrics of that song .

Lying here with you
Listening to the rain
Smiling just to see the smile upon your face
These are the moments I thank God that I’m alive
These are the moments I’ll remember all my life
I found all I’ve waited for
And I could not ask for more
Looking in your eyes
Seeing all I need
Everything you are is everything to me
These are the moments
I know heaven must exist
These are the moments I know all I need is this
I have all I’ve waited for
And I could not ask for more
Chorus
I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
Every prayer has been answered
Every dream I have’s come true
And right here in this moment is right where I’m meant to be
Here with you here with me
These are the moments I thank God that I’m alive
These are the moments I’ll remember all my life
I’ve got all I’ve waited for
And I could not ask for more
I could not ask for more than the love you give me ‘Coz it’s all I’ve waited for
And I could not ask for more
I could not ask for more

I apologize if this was more than you can bear, but it had to be said.

Thanks for reading.
